International Dengue Course-Instituto Pedro Kouri

The “Pedro Kourí” Tropical Medicine Institute (IPK), located in Havana, Cuba, is a world-renowned public health institution and hospital that focuses on scientific research, academic training and clinical care. It also serves as the National Reference and Research Laboratory on Tuberculosis and Mycobacteria and the National Clinical Reference Center for AIDS treatment. Established in 1937, IPK clinicians and researchers have focused on promoting research on the prevention, control and elimination of tropical diseases; educating Cuban and international students through high-quality academic training in various scientific disciplines; and providing optimal medical care services to patients. Although many tropical diseases have been eliminated in the region, IPK has prioritized their clinical and research initiatives in HIV/AIDS care, epidemiology of tuberculosis, and prevention and control of vector-borne diseases. More specifically, dengue fever is a particular area of expertise and as such makes IPK an ideal setting for students, residents, fellows, and other researchers to learn about dengue and its control. The 15th annual International Dengue Course, “Challenges of Zika and Chikungunya transmission”, will incorporate theoretical and practical sessions, and will be held in Havana from August 7-18, 2017.
